We were waiting for it and finally it has arrived: the new HeroQuest will happen! Today, in fact, the countdown launched a couple of weeks ago by Avalon Hill and Hasbro, which announced the presentation of something new for HeroQuest, has ended. There was a fear that it was a digital version, but today, at the end of the countdown, we discovered that it will not be a software. Instead, it is a new edition of the much loved board game of the 80s. Let’s see it in more detail.
A new HeroQuest that recalls the classic look
This new HeroQuest looks like a real re-edition faithful to the original. Even if some distinctions must be made: first of all there will be neither the Chaos Warriors nor the Fimir. They are in fact trademarks owned by Games Workshop which did not take part in the project. Also, the elf character has been made a woman, more in line with the times. Instead, the scary Gargoyle, the mummies, the zombies. Also the orcs have been confirmed, even if they are very different from how we remembered them, but also available in a new female version.
Furniture is very faithful to the original, but will not be in cardboard but real miniatures, also to be painted. Faithful to the original also the board that seems to have not undergone any changes.
How to buy the new HeroQuest
This new HeroQuest was launched on HasLabs, a kind of Kickstarter but owned by the famous toy company. The campaign aims to reach $ 1 million by November 6th and nothing suggests that it will not succeed as it had already hit $ 100,000 within minutes.
There are 2 levels of participation: Heroic Tier and Mythic Tier. Let’s see together what the two levels of participation include.
Heroic Tier
With $ 99.99 you can participate in the companion. The Heroic Tier entitles the HeroQuest main game system with 71 miniatures of various characters and furniture, as well as 4 bonus hero miniatures (revised versions in sex and pose of the 4 classics) and 1 exclusive miniature, Sir Ragnar, available only during the campaign.
Mythic Tier
This level costs $ 149.99 and includes the Heroic Tier offer, in addition to 2 game expansions, 2 additional exclusive characters and all the exclusive characters that will be unlocked during the campaign, starting from reaching 1.2 million dollars.
“Return of the Witch Lord” and “Kellar’s Keep” are the two expansions, which add new quests, but apparently don’t seem to bring new miniatures to the game, just adding more copies of mummies, zombies and orcs already present in the base game.
Where the new HeroQuest will be available for purchase
Here we come to the sore point: the new HeroQuest will not be available in Europe, but only in the USA and Canada. At least this applies to the campaign on HasbroPulse. The fact remains that it will be distributed later, but clearly there will be no way to have the specials unlocked with the campaign. All this left a bit of regret, especially to friends living in Great Britain, where the game was born in 1989.
