The Army Painter Warpaints Air is the new range of airbrush colors presented yesterday by the Danish company. A few weeks ago, The Army Painter asked me to try out some beta versions of these new airbrush colors. In particular, I received:
- Turquoise
- Beige
For each color I had 3 shades available. The Army Painter in fact wanted to create a “triad” of shades for each color. The goal is to have a dark tone, a half tone and a light tone for each color available in the set.
The Army Painter Warpaints Air
So I tried the colors received on a couple of test miniatures and I must say that I was particularly surprised by the fluidity. The colors are designed to be ready for the airbrush, without the need to dilute them to reach the right viscosity.
As a first test, I painted an old Space Marine in turquoise giving the darker shade from the bottom, the half tone from the top and using the light tone to give an accent of brightness to the shoulder straps, the helmet and the backpack. In short, I tried as always to give brightness to the points most exposed to light.

Similarly I tried the 3 beige colors on a Death Guard PoxWalker applying the same concept. Here too, no clogging in the airbrush and everything took place in a very short time. In my videos, you have seen me several times preparing the color and looking for the right viscosity before loading it into the tool. I must admit that having airbrush ready colors offers a certain advantage, especially for those who want to paint many miniatures in a short time. As always, The Army Painter is focused on providing products that allow players to spend as little time as possible painting, to spend more time playing. Taking full advantage of the availability of the triads, I believe we can prepare a good color base for an entire army of miniatures in a very short time!
Warpaints Air: when will they be available?
Yesterday The Army Painter therefore presented its new range of “Air” colors specifically dedicated to the painting of airbrush miniatures. From yesterday it is possible to pre-order, while the sets will be available from 23 October.
I’m talking about sets because there are currently two products: the Warpaint Air Mega Set and the more modest Warpaints Air Starter Set.
The first is made up of 60 color bottles divided into:
- 50 Warpaints Air
- 9 Warpaints Air Metallics
- 1 Warpaints Air Fluo (green)
All 60 colors in the set are offered in the classic 18ml bottle of The Army Painter and are supplied with iron marbles to mix them inside.
With the Warpaints Air Mega Set you have practically all the triads of colors designed by The Army Painter at your disposal.
The Warpaints Air Starter Set instead consists of 12 colors plus a neutral, gray, 100ml primer. The set does not include triads, but only primary colors, secondary colors, white and black, a metallic silver and a couple of colors useful to paint skin.
Warpaints Air: possible developments
If these sets are successful, it is easy to think of further sets of colors, perhaps one dedicated to metallics, an expansion of the fluo offer (at the moment only green is available …) but above all we expect that the range of airbrush primers will match the one proposed as a spray can. It is inevitable that this is the case, isn’t it Adam ?!
