If you’re here, you’ve surely heard of Kickstarter. But what is and how does kickstarter works?
Let’s take the definition of Wikipedia:
Kickstarter is an American collective financing website for creative projects.
Through it various types of businesses have been financed, including independent films, video games, music, theater performances, comics, journalism and food-related businesses.
And many board games i would say. In practice, individuals or companies ask for the financial support of their communities to finance their projects. In jargon this is called “crowdfunding”.
What it is and how does Kickstarter works?
CMON (Cool Mini Or Not) is the company that produced the Zombicide board game line. The first campaign that launched on Kickstarter was precisely the first chapter of Zombicide, about 10 years ago.
The campaign for the second edition of Zombicide is currently underway, which is also the fortieth CMON campaign on this platform.
How to pledge a Kickstarter campaign
When a company like CMON launches a Kickstarter campaign, it gives anyone the chance to support the project with a donation. Those that will support the project with a predetermined quota, called “pledge”, will receive the product at home in preview with respect to the marketing.
What makes these campaigns engaging and convenient is that in addition to the game you can receive expansions and exclusive game elements. So if with about 90$ you can buy the basic game once you are on the market, with a similar “pledge” during the Kickstarter campaign you can get the game plus some exclusives that you won’t have a way to buy if not privately.
In addition, to incentivize donations, upon reaching certain quotas CMON will add a new “Stretch Goal” to your pledge, generally a new game character, exclusively for Kickstarter campaign participants.
At the end of the campaign, therefore, with the purchase price of the base game plus expansion ($ 140 plus shipping) you will also take home all the unlocked stretch goals. If you want to buy all the stretch goals after the campaign from a private individual, the price will go up particularly.
How the Kickstarter pledge manager works
During the campaign you will also be able to buy some expansions and new game elements. In addition to the basic pledge and the Stretch Goals you can “donate” the extra fee for the purchase of, or expansions you wish to purchase. After a month from the end of the campaign, you will receive an email that will notify you of the opening of the Pledge Manager.
This will allow you to pay the shipping costs and to tell CMON how your pledge’s quota must be redistributed on the various products, or increased to buy more. Only then will you receive at home everything you intend to buy. Make sure you’ve defined everything correctly so it’s absolutely in your interest.
Conclusions
Kickstarter is definitely an opportunity not to be missed, but only if you are a collector and a big fan of this game. So make sure you have a good group of friends with your friends, with whom you can organize exciting games and have fun for a long time! Otherwise, you should simply buy the base box when it is available in stores.
