Here they are! The Army Painter Speedpaint is the new range of colors for speed painting by the Danish brand. It is not the first company to make such a range of colors, based on the success of Citadel’s Contrast. Scale75 also has its own range of colors of this type called Instant Colors. But if you think about it, unlike the Spaniards, The Army Painter was born precisely for speed painting with the QuickShade. Furthermore, the brand has always aimed to equip players with tools to quickly paint their armies, exactly as the name implies. For this, the new “Speedpaint” sets are in perfect synchrony with the company mission.

What are The Army Painter Speedpaint

This new range, unlike the Warpaints AIR presented a few weeks ago, seems to be very small in terms of the number of colors. But nothing suggests that The Army Painter cannot expand it in the future, just as it did with AIR, where it only later introduced the Mega Paint Set. At the moment, therefore, 23 colors and two sets are planned:

  • Speedpaint Starter Set: includes 10 Speed Paint colors
Speedpaint Mega Set: Includes all 23 Speed Paint colors, plus a medium

The Army Painter Speedpaint, when will they be available?

At the moment it is only known that the colors will be on pre-order from 2022, but there is no official date. We will be waiting to know more.

Conclusions

Personally I am a bit skeptical about this type of colors, but I must admit that I have never even tried Contrast. I come from the old school, i’m one of those people who love to paint and love to spend time doing this rather than playing. So for me the concept of “speed painting” itself is a bit contrary to my hobby philosophy, as well as coloring many miniatures all the same. But the fact remains that they could be interesting especially with some types of miniatures, or combining them with classic colors. In the past I painted some Death Guard Pox Walkers using only gray / white primer shaders, could you achieve something very similar with this type of colors too? I don’t know, as I said, I’ve never tried them but I wouldn’t mind experiencing them … what do you think? Let me know in the comments below.
